In March 2024, we continued across the lower US 48 on Interstate 10 from Tallahassee to Montgomery, Alabama. There we met up with some Wisconsin friends and spent a week back in the spot where COVID sent us running!
We were in site 305 at “The Backyard RV Resort” from March 10 to 17, 2024. Back in 2020, it was called the “The Woods RV Park” and has since been bought out. This was the same campground that we “evacuated” from in 2020 when COVID started to descend on the country and we high-tailed back to Wisconsin before the lockdowns.
We would not necessarily recommend returning here though. The Southwest side of Montgomery did not bounce back at all to the pre-CoVID self and while the campground felt safe it was obvious the surrounding area was not. The campground is very nice, the sites are level and very long. It was wet the week we were here and some of the sides were drenched and drainage was poor. There are lots of nice looking facilities but we did not see anyone using anything, including ourselves.
The highlight of the week was catching up with some past coworkers and friends from Wisconsin who were inspired by our lifestyle. We didn’t even get a selfie with them, it was time to disconnect.
